What happens when we feel stressed? Various parts of the brain are quick to react to stress and release a number of hormones that put us into a fight or flight mode. It’s not a particularly great way to feel and honestly, it’s meant to be temporary and will eventually break down the endocrine system and make us sick. So, how can you naturally release stress throughout your day?
Try using this small sample of essential oils that, when tested with EEG, had a sedative effect on the brain:
Lavender, Carrot Seed, Patchouli, Geranium, Lemongrass, Lime, and Marjoram.
This means that inhaling these oils causes a relaxation effect on the body. Interestingly enough, geranium was both relaxing and stimulating making it the perfect grounding oil to help you cope with stress in a positive manner.

Here are some ways to use these oils to help you get through your stress-induced days:
Add these oils to a hand or body wash, lotion, or cream and use them on a daily basis to help create a state of calm.
Try a lavender or geranium spray on your pillow before you go to sleep or spritz your car for the ride to or from work.
When particularly stressed, put ten drops of your favourite scents into the tub. Mix and match to create your own synergy. I like six drops of patchouli to four drops geranium. To me, it’s like a beautiful choral symphony of smells. Honestly, just the THOUGHT of having a bath with this combination instantly increases my happiness quotient and reduces my stress and anxiety.
I don’t know about you, but I think there is enough stress out there to go around so, if there is a simple thing like inhaling a relaxing essential oil, while washing my hands or hydrating my body to help reduce stress... bring it on!
