Five Ways to Healthier Hair with Argan Oil
I just can’t live without Argan oil. Why? Two reasons: curly hair and super dry cuticles. I use it to control my curls and condition my cuticles. Always. And, no matter what hair type you have it is one of the best hair oils available.
Argan oil comes from the Argan nut produced by Argan tree from North Africa and Southwestern Morocco. Traditionally, to produce the oil, in fair trade cooperatives, the argan nut is cracked by hand and macerated between two stones, hand kneaded, and cold pressed. This process takes hours, and it can take one woman up to three days to make one litre. Considered liquid gold by women in that region, they use it for everything from a facial rejuvenation oil, rough skin and cuticle conditioner to a must have ingredient for healthy hair. Due to the small specific growing region, it is considered one of the rarest oils in the world.
Argan oil boasts extremely high levels of antioxidants and omega six fatty acids and contains twice the amount of vitamin E as olive oil. Antioxidants are nutrients and enzymes (vitamins, minerals and proteins) that can help prevent and repair damage to your body’s tissues. Omega 6 fatty acids stimulate hair growth and hydrate your hair follicles. Vitamin E oil promotes hair growth, helps prevent hair loss and it is important in the treatment and prevention of dry, damaged hair.
Do you see why Argan oil is SO revered? It’s just amazing in a bottle! It not only helps with strengthening and rejuvenation and hair growth, but in my application, it helps the unhealthy, damaged cuticle (outer layer) of my hair shaft lay down in a smooth fashion. It is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also keeps the keratin layer (inner part of the shaft) from drying out. When the keratin dries out, it leaves the hair prone to damage from dry weather, sun exposure and product use. This damage can lead to breakage, split ends and dull, lifeless hair.
Argan Oil is also abused by manufacturers by mixing it with silicones (extremely difficult to wash from hair as it clogs the hair shaft) and other ingredients such as drying fragrances. There are some very popular products on the market that contain about 5% argan oil in total. This practice is not only unhealthy for your hair but also a waste of your money as the other ingredients are just plain filler!
Our Argan oil is just that: 100% pure Argan oil. A very little goes a very long way.
