I am reaching the age… or probably more correctly, have reached the age where I am having to come to terms with the fact that I am experiencing some not so subtle changes in my skin such as wrinkles and discoloration from sun damage. I also own a spa, so the topic of anti-aging is quite a hot topic.
In my circle, the word Retinol is tossed around as “the” anti-aging mega Queen…. Which it is. It is a form of Vitamin A that is highly antioxidant, great at repairing damaged tissues, reducing scars, wrinkles and discoloration. The best form or Retinol is through a prescription from your doctor. BUT, Retinol comes with a price! It thins the skin, and can cause sensitization as well as making you extremely susceptible to sun burn. In other words, those in the natural skin care field, cringe when they hear of a client using Retinol.
You can imagine my delight when I discovered that good quality Rosehip Seed Oil as well as Shea Butter contains a naturally occurring Vitamin A which helps reverse the signs of aging, phytonutrients which reduce inflammation, antioxidants as well as excellent skin healing properties. Naturally!
So, what would I recommend as your miracle anti-aging trick? After cleansing and exfoliating, use good quality organic Rosehip Seed Oil as your day serum, either on its own or underneath your organic moisturizer. Four drops is enough and it absorbs really quickly. I would recommend another 2-4 drops for your décolleté. Then, as a night treatment, I would cleanse and apply a good quality She Butter.
Here’s a recipe for whipped Shea Butter so that it’s easier to apply.
1 Cup Shea Butter
4 TBSP Organic Coconut Butter
Basically, melt the Shea Butter and Coconut Oil in the double boiler, just until liquid. Let cool slightly and then using a hand blender on medium to fast speed, begin to blend. In order to get a creamy and fluffy consistency, you’ll probably want to blend for about 10 minutes. It will kind of be like egg whites for meringue: Liquid and bubbly at first, but then miraculously it will turn fluffy and set up.
Voila! You’re ready to turn back that clock, naturally! Enjoy.
PS… You are always best to keep your natural oils and butters in the fridge or a cool place to keep them from going rancid. If your product does end up with a funky smell, stop using it. Any useful health benefits will have disappeared.
