Ten Natural Remedies to Prevent and Treat Foot Fungus
Although I have never personal suffered from this, as a massage therapist, I have witnessed many people that have. They report itching and burning. There can be blisters and if they break, than infection and pain can set in. It is also possible to easily spread the infection by touching it and then touching another area of your body.
So, what can you do to help prevent and treat foot fungus and ensure that it doesn’t spread to the nail?
1. Change shoes and socks immediately after exercise.
2. Wear flip-flops in any public locker-room, in the sauna and pool-side
3. If possible, do not wear shoes that prevent ventilation of the feet
4. Buy organic cotton or hemp socks that readily absorb sweat
5. Never walk barefoot in wet public places
6. Treat athlete’s foot immediately, to keep it from spreading to nails
7. Exercise to increase blood circulation to the toes, as your body’s immune system will be better equipped to detect and eliminate any in-coming infections
8. Keep the feet and toes well-cleaned
9. Use a good quality tea tree oil and apply directly to the area at least 3 times a day. Always wash your hands after touching the affected area
10. Grapefruit seed extract is also reputed to have highly antifungal qualities and can be massaged into the feet at night before going to bed.
Basically, good foot hygiene is the ultimate answer. It’s hell to get rid of if you don’t pay attention to it and it’s also highly contagious, so no footsies with your sweetie pie! Make sure you keep up the treatment for at least a couple of weeks after the symptoms subside, just to ensure you got it all.
