DIY Rosemary Mint Hair and Scalp Treatment

There are a lot of expensive rosemary oils on the market, but you can make your own for a fraction of the cost. All it takes is a little time, a few natural ingredients and some jars.

Why use rosemary mint oil in your healthy hair regimen at all? Both rosemary and peppermint help to strengthen the hair shaft, they both help with dandruff and dry, itchy scalp, and they actually assist with hair growth via cell division by dilating the blood vessels which stimulate the hair follicles. Rosemary is chock full of phytochemicals and peppermint helps control the pH of the scalp! Oh, and together, they smell amazing! That’s just an awesome bonus!

So, how do you make this awesome concoction? First, you’ll need to sterilize a glass jar and a strainer. You can do this by boiling for 5 minutes or you can spritz with 99% alcohol. Allow it all to dry completely before using.

Once your jar is ready, fill with dried rosemary and dried mint. Don’t stuff the jar to tightly that you don’t leave room for the oil. If using herbs from your garden, please be sure to dry them 100%. If you don’t, they’ll go rancid in the oil and all your hard work will go to waste. Fill the remainder of your jar with either sweet almond or argan oil. Both are high in Vitamins including E, B & A and both are well known for their amazing qualities for the hair.

Now, here’s the hard part: cap the jar and allow to sit for 4-5 weeks. Or, you could put a crock pot on the lowest setting and allow to “cook” overnight. Be sure to sterilize the crockpot as well.

Once your mixture is ready, strain using a cheesecloth over a fine metal strainer. And voila! Beautiful healthy hair and scalp treatment. Apply to the scalp and massage in. Allow it to reach the ends of your hair for extra health and shine. Use a bag or a towels and leave on for 10 minutes or up to overnight!

I promise, your hair and scalp will love you for it!
